The tourist hotspot of Puerto Del Carmen in Lanzarote is home to some fantastic beaches perfect for a day of relaxation, sunbathing & swimming.
Having had the pleasure of visiting Puerto Del Camen multiple times over the past 20+ years, here are our five favourite beaches to visit.
Table of Contents
1. Playa Babi Beach
This small beach is situated just behind the new Fariones hotel between the Puerto Del Carmen main strip and the old town and can be accessed from the hotel itself, or by walking along Playa Grande beach towards the old town.
Given its shelter from the main strip, this beach is relatively undiscovered making it the perfect place for adults to relax.
That said the positive of this beach is also its drawback with its privacy and distance from the strip meaning that amenities such as drinks, snacks and toilets are a little further away when compared to some of the other beaches.
This beach is unserviced and therefore has no sun loungers or lifeguards, which often doesn’t make it the first choice for families with children.
2. Playa de los Pocillos Beach
Situated at the far end of Puerto Del Carmen near the airport Playa de Los Pocillos beach is one of the largest on the island both in length and depth.
While there are no toilets at this beach it is close to many other amenities including a supermarket, bars and restaurants.
This beach is popular with guests staying at some of the nearby hotels including; Hotel Lanzarote Village, Hotel Las Costas and Hotel Riu Paraiso Lanzarote.
However, given its size, the beach can feel relatively quiet even on busy days, with more than enough space for everyone.
Sadly, this beach’s size does have some drawbacks the main one being the high winds given how open and unprotected the area is.
Winds are common in Lanzarote in general so if you’re planning on heading to this beach ensure you’re prepared.
While you can bring windbreakers and beach shelters down to this beach there are also sun loungers and brollies that can be hired.
3. Playa Grande Beach
Playa Grande Beach is the most popular beach in Puerto Del Carmen, stretching over 1km in length the beach runs parallel to the majority of the major entertainment strip in the region.
As a result, this beach has several amenities including sunbed hire, and multiple toilets and shower blocks.
There are several cafes just at the edge of the beach with a further range of bars, restaurants and shops all available on the strip itself.
If you’re a family looking to spend a day at the beach while holidaying in Puerto Del Carmen, then this is the beach I’d suggest checking out.
4. Playa Lima Beach
Playa Lima Beach is the beach adjacent to Lanzarote Airport and the perfect place to come and watch the planes take off and land.
However, given its location, it’s not ideal for sunbathing and there are no sunbeds available or lifeguards on watch.
If you decide to visit this beach be sure to bring some drinks & snacks since it’s roughly a 2km walk back to a walk from here back to Matagorda beach and to any restaurants, bars and supermarkets.
5. Playa Matagorda Beach
Playa Matagorda Beach is the next beach along from Playa Lima Beach towards the main region of Puerto Del Carmen.
This beach is one of the longest open beaches in Lanzarote which can cause a problem in high winds (which are incredibly common on the island) with your towels blowing away and sand blowing into your eyes.
That said, the advantage to this beach being so large is that it’s relatively quiet and spacious even on busy days.
This beach is incredibly popular with guests staying at Seaside Los Jameos, Floresta Hotel and Sol Lanzarote given its close proximity.
