Small and convenient bags such as fanny packs are ideal for taking to theme parks as they wrap around your waist leaving your hands free, are spacious enough for personal belongings, easy to access yet safe and come in a range of different styles.
Fanny packs are permitted at Universal Studios however for some rides you will be asked to put your fanny pack into the free lockers provided. This includes The Mummy at Universal Studios Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood and The Incredible Hulk Coaster at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

Can You Bring A Fanny Pack To Universal?
You can bring anything smaller than a large bag/small suitcase to Universal Studios, though be sure to make sure your bag doesn’t have wheels as these will not be permitted into the parks.
Smaller bags such as fanny packs and cross body bags are perfect for taking to the parks as they are compact, small and easy to stow away into the lockers when needed.
Can You Wear Fanny Packs On Rides At Universal Studios?
Unfortunately, not all rides allow bags no matter how small they are. There are certain rides that allow small bags such as fanny packs and small cross body bags but nothing larger.
There are 3 main rides at Universal Studios which do not allow any type of bag or any item on your person on the ride. This is due to the nature of the ride and the velocity in which it moves, things can quickly become unlodged in bags and pockets and fall out.
These rides include Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit and Incredible Hulk Roller Coaster. There are other rides that will ask you to place your bag in a locker and remove items from your pockets before getting on the ride. While you may be able to queue until near the start of the ride you will be stopped by a staff member upon arriving at the platform informing you bags are not allowed.
However, you can take your bag with you if you are heading to the child swap area and the other person is holding your bag while you go on the ride.
Rides that are smaller, slower and don’t go upside down may allow fanny packs to be worn. This can depend from ride to ride and also at the discretion of the staff. If you need to have your medical supplies in your fanny pack you can notify the staff member on entering the ride.
8 Best Fanny Pack’s For Universal Studios
Fanny packs like any bag need to fit your needs especially when you will be using it so much at the parks and the last thing you want is to be uncomfortable or even frustrated by the bag itself.
So here are a few things you might want to keep in mind when looking at the best fanny packs for Universal Studios;
- Is it comfortable?
- Does the waist strap adjust?
- How many pockets does it have?
- Is it showerproof/waterproof?
These are some of the questions you might want to ask yourself when looking to purchase a fanny pack as these are important when you are heading to the parks.
Make sure you look for these qualities especially if you plan to share the fanny pack with others in your party during your trip or want to keep your money in a separate pocket from tickets etc.
1. Herschel Fourteen Waist Pack
Herschel are another brand that are both fashionable and suitable for everyday use. They create a number of bag products so even if you don’t like the idea of a fanny pack you can look at the backpacks and cross body bags availble.
The fanny pack is a really useful bag to store in smaller items from your tickets, phone, mini suncream and money.
Though small the bag can fit in plenty of essentials and it stops you from over packing and carrying around a tonne of useless stuff.
I also love the tough canvas style material of this fanny pack as it won’t irritate the skin but won’t bobble or easily tear during use. It is a tough material that will last for a long time and be perfect for using at any of your favourite theme parks.
2. Eastpak Springer Bum Bag
Eastpak are very similar to Hershel in terms of quality and durability but focus more on the practicality than design. You can find a number of fanny packs made by Eastpak so if you are not completely sold on this particular design they offer more options.
The bag is showerproof and works well for a number of places, tasks and days out.
Whether you are going on all the rides or monitoring the pushchair and being the bag holder this is super easy to wear and use. It is also perfect for both men and women so it can be used as a family fanny pack.
This model is super handy as it has two individual pockets which are zip fastened making them super secure. One can hold tickets money and express passes while the other has your phone or camera in. Then you can save the big pocket for things such as sunglasses or suncream.
The thick and sturdy canvas style belt is easy to adjust to suit any size and placement on the body. I also really like that the zip handles come with extended rope toggles to make it easy to open and close the pockets, especially when you are in a rush or have your hands full of butterbeer.
3. Jansport Mono Fifth Ave Fanny Pack
Jansport is a staple fashion and everyday bag maker, they are commonly used for everyday bags and backpacks for schools and colleges.
What I like about this fanny pack is that it has the main zip pocket opening on the top part of the bag, making it safer and easier to get in and out of the bag.
Some zips that come across the bag can often leave an open gap to allow things to fall out easier which this one doesn’t.
The Jansport fanny pack is very similar to the Eastpak fanny pack, though the Jansport fanny pack is made from a sticker sleeker material and is showerproof. The pockets are much more accessible and easier to use during a busy day at the parks.
It also only comes with one front zip pocket and one larger main pocket, though this is perfect for anyone looking to keep their bag for Universal Studios simple and small.
4. Nike Heritage Hip Pack
Nike is a well-known brand as we often recommend their footwear and trainers for a day at Universal Studios. Since the brand and quality are so good we also thought their bags were worth a mention, in particular the Heritage hip pack.
The design and style of the fanny pack are really simple and classic Nike with a black canvas and a white tick. It is also fairly discreet if you are looking for a bag that would suit a number of different outfits and colours.
One of the key features is that there is a small hidden pocket on the back of the bag along with the main pocket.
It is easily adjustable so you can wear it around your waist/hips or across your body. Another key feature to mention is that it is showerproof so great for water rides.
5. TINYAT Unisex Waterproof Waist Bag
The Tinyat unisex fanny pack is perfect for taking to Universal Studios and is perfect for those rainy days and wet rides. The bag itself is waterproof and is highly reviewed.
This fanny pack is large enough to fit in a mobile phone, keys, money and even glasses. There is ample space for the necessities and plenty of protection with waterproof zips and fabric.
The fanny pack has multiple pockets which make it perfect for keeping small important items such as money, tickets and your phone separate and tucked away safely.
There is an adjustable belt making it easy for anyone in the family to use it and be comfortable in it. What I really like is the belt comes with a soft elasticated hoop that holds the excess waistband in place to stop it from flapping around.
6. TIMBUK2 Slacker Chest Pack
The Timbuk2 chest pack is diverse and easy to wear with three options to wear including around the hips or waist, on your back and across your chest. The padded mesh backing allows the pack to stay put while you are on the move and exploring the parks. They are also well known and popular among those looking at going to festivals.
One of the best features within the pack is the key clip inside, so no matter what you can keep your keys safe and close to hand.
The pack is fairly small compared to some of the others on the list but fits in exactly what you need for a day at Universal Studios.
The only downfall to the pack is the small zip opening to get your items in and out, this is mostly a security feature to stop everything from falling out and coming out of place but if you like to have easy access to your items this may not be the one for you.
7. Patagonia Unisex’s Ultralight Mini Hip Pack
Patagonia is a great brand with quality products so I was more than happy to add this one to the list. The hip pack is brilliant for days at the park as it is simple to use, waterproof and fits in all the essentials.
One of the best features is the compact stow away pocket that you can fold up the pack into for travelling or when packing into a bag or suitcase.
You could even pack it into your larger day bag for the parks and pull it out if you need it or if the party split up for rides etc.
You can find the hip pack in a number of fun colours and in the usual retro style, Patagonia are famous for. It is also a great hip pack to use for running and jogging or taking to the gym as the waistband is tight and firm and stays in place during exercise or excessive movement.
8. Osprey Savu Lumbar Bike Hydration Pack
Though the Osprey Savu pack looks intense and a little bulky for a trip to the park it is still a great choice, especially those who have older children and don’t want to carry around a backpack or need to carry a little more for medical purposes but still wish to have a hip pack.
Osprey, of course, are known to make some of the best hiking backpacks on the market so it is no surprise that they have one of the best fanny packs on the market.
The best feature within this hip pack is that the weight of the pack and contents is distributed over the body for greater comfort, taking away from the hip and waist area directly.
It is a 4L capacity pack giving you ample space for all your essentials for a day at the park. Though it isn’t the coolest looking or even the most stylish it is highly practical and if you prefer practicality overlooks then this is the fanny pack for you.
It comes with a multitude of pockets and safe spaces to hold items such as money, tickets and spare change along with larger pockets for items such as your phone, small camera, mini suncream etc. It also has a 1.5L hydration reservoir or space for 2 water bottles at either side of the main pocket.
