As travelling parents, we know first-hand the importance accommodation has in creating both a relaxing and memorable family vacation.
When we began planning our first family vacation to Oahu, Hawaii we found the number of accommodation options to be incredibly overwhelming.
We therefore, decided to use a portion of our time on the island to research the different properties in person to hopefully help other families in their decision on where to stay.
1. Sheraton Waikiki

The Sheraton Waikiki hotel is one of the best family resorts in Oahu. This large luxury resort on world-famous Waikiki Beach makes the perfect base for exploring Oahu.
The beach is just outside your door, while family-friendly attractions like the Honolulu Zoo and the Waikiki Aquarium are just a short drive away.
Some rooms offer ocean or city views, and family rooms with two double beds and a twin bed are available.
When it comes to amenities, there’s an oceanfront infinity pool for adults, and the family-friendly Helumoa Playground pool for kids, which includes a 70-foot water slide.
In addition to offering two on-site restaurants, a coffee shop, and a pool bar, the Sheraton Waikiki also has a Baskin-Robbins ice cream parlour which is guaranteed to be a hit for kids, along with a bakery called The Cookie Corner in the lobby.
The hotel also offers Poppins Day Care, a kids club service for children aged three months to twelve years, with arts and crafts, a PlayStation, as well as educational books and games.

Hilton Hawaiian Village is another family-friendly resort on the island of Oahu. Located on the widest stretch of Waikiki Beach, this resort offers a slice of paradise for the whole family to enjoy.
Guests can choose from rooms with resort, coastal or ocean views across five different towers. Being such a large resort, you’ll be able to enjoy dining at 18 different on-site restaurants, cafes, and lounges.
The resort has a private beach and its own private five-acre saltwater lagoon, the only one of its kind on Waikiki Beach.
Your family can enjoy snorkelling, kayaking, paddle boarding, and other fun activities in the ocean or lagoon. Alternatively, consider taking a dip in one of the four swimming pools, one of which features a water slide.

The Marriot Ko Olina Beach Club is located within the same complex as Disney’s Aulani Resort and offers a more generalised family-friendly experience.
Ko Olina Beach Club offers standard guest rooms as well as one- and two-bedroom villas which offer full kitchens, separate living rooms, dining areas, and laundry rooms, which are perfect for families who want some extra space on their vacation.
This resort offers three outdoor swimming pools, including a kid’s pool. The private beach is calm and secluded, perfect for swimming or snorkelling.
There’s also an on-site restaurant, poolside cafe, coffee shop and bakery. For even more recreations, guests will be able to enjoy an 18-hole golf course and a spa.
For young children, the resort offers a kids club with daily scheduled activities. There’s also a traditional Hawaiian luau every week that is fun for the whole family.
7. Four Seasons Resort Oahu

The Four Seasons Resort Oahu is also located on the same property as Disney’s Aulani Resort and Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club, however, it takes things to the next level with five-star luxury and amenities.
This is one of the best luxury resorts in Oahu for families who want to have an unforgettable vacation in the Hawaiian islands. This hotel offers extremely luxurious rooms and suites with oceanfront or garden views.
There are four swimming pools, including an adults-only infinity pool and the kid-friendly Keiki Pool located just steps from the private lagoon with its white sand beaches.
You can try your hand at kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkelling, or other watersports on the lagoon, or hop aboard a catamaran sailboat tour.

Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel is one of the best condo-style family resorts in Oahu. If you’re looking for a relaxing, private getaway this is the perfect place to stay.

One-bedroom and two-bedroom suites are available, and all feature private balconies, separate living and dining areas, full kitchens, and a washer and dryer.

However, one thing to note about this hotel is that unlike other properties listed here, it’s not directly on the beach.
However, it’s just a 10-minute walk to Waikiki Beach and the hotel does have a swimming pool, which becomes adults-only after 6 p.m. There’s also an on-site restaurant serving casual Hawaiian fare.
This is a great base for families who are more interested in exploring Oahu than spending all day on the beach, and the hotel offers complimentary parking for your rental car so you can easily explore all that the island has to offer.
14. Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa

Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa is a great hotel on Waikiki Beach. This historic hotel, which originally opened in 1901, is known as the First Lady of Waikiki.

Picky eaters will be fine because there’s a special “keiki” (kids) menu with kid-friendly options. While there is no kids club at this hotel, childcare is available.
The location of Halekulani Hotel is also close to activities like the Honolulu Zoo and Waikiki Aquarium that kids of all ages will enjoy.
16. Alohilani Resort
