Is Universal’s Islands of Adventure Good For Adults?

There are a whole host of theme parks in Florida to choose from. However, if it’s an adults-only trip it can be hard to decide which theme park might be right for you.

Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando is a great theme park for adults. It’s filled with awesome thrill rides, has one half of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, as well as nostalgic comic book character meet and greet opportunities.

Better yet, Universal’s Islands of Adventure is connected to the Universal Studios Resort which includes CityWalk the entertainment district. Here are four reasons you should consider booking a trip to Island’s of Adventure for your adults trip to Orlando.

Awesome Thrill Rides

There are some incredible thrill rides at Islands of Adventure which are perfect for adults. Some of our favourites include;

Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls – This unique ride is half roller coaster and half water flume with an incredible 75-foot drop at the end. It’s a huge hit with Islands of Adventure visitors and as a result, often has standby wait times of one hour or more.

While you may get wet going on this ride, the good news is there are giant human driers at the end which can be used for just a couple of dollars.

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure – One of the latest rides to open at Island’s of Adventure is Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Which allows you to ride side by side in a motorbike and sidecar.

Being one of the latest and most popular rides to open, this ride does often see wait times of over two hours and currently doesn’t accept Express Passes. However, many guests ourselves included thinking the experience is well worth the wait time!

The Incredible Hulk Coaster – Reaching speeds of up to 67 miles per hour, The Incredible Hulk Coaster is currently the number one thrill ride at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

This ride is situated at the front of the park in Comic Strip Lane the ride is impossible to miss and well worth queueing for. Again, this ride often sees wait times of around an hour, but this can be reduced significantly with the use of an Express Pass.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong – Another great ride for adults to try at Universal’s Islands of Adventure is Skull Island, Reign of Kong. This is part rollercoaster, part simulation ride and is incredibly immersive.

This ride accepts the Express Pass and also has a virtual line which helps to significantly reduce the amount of time you have to spend physically waiting in line.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Another reason adults love Universal’s Islands of Adventure is because of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This region is split across both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios and connected by the Hogwarts Express.

Universal Studios is home to Diagon Alley, meanwhile, Island’s of Adventure is home to Hogsmeade and features the iconic Hogwarts Castle which you can actually go inside to ride on the incredible Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride.

As well as some fantastic rides, this region of the park is also home to some incredible souvenirs such as interactive wizard wands, robes and magical sweets, great food and drink including the world-famous Butterbeer and immersive entertainment including the Frog Choir and Triwizard Spirit Rally.

Comic Book Character Photo Ops

Many adults, ourselves included look at comic book characters fondly and nostalgically which is why we love visiting Comic Strip Lane at the entrance of Islands of Adventure. Here you’ll be able to get iconic photos with the likes of Capitan America and Black Widow while immersing yourself in the highly engaging and detailed surroundings of this area of the park.

If you want to take this experience to the next level consider booking a character dining experience at Cafe 4. The current cost of this experience is $49.99 plus tax and allows you to feast on a buffet dinner of pasta, pizza, salad and meats while being greeted by some of your favourite characters such as Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Storm and Rogue.

The comic book characters roam this area of the park from opening until close and change regularly so come back at different times of the day to increase the chances of your meeting one of your childhood idols.

Photographers will take your photo with the characters either on your phone or camera, alternatively, you could look to purchase a My Universal Photos package. A one day package currently costs $69.99 plus tax and allows you to get digital copies of all the photos taken in the park that day alongside two photo prints (a 4×6 and a 5×7).

Located Next To CityWalk

The perfect ending to a great day at an awesome theme park such as Islands of Adventure is with a delicious meal while watching the sunset and believe me, there’s no better place to do that than at CityWalk which is conveniently located right outside of Island’s of Adventure.

Some of our favourite adult-friendly restaurants include;

The Cowfish – Our personal favourite restaurant at CityWalk is The Cowfish. This is the world’s first burger and sushi bar, which is a combo I never thought would work but totally does. If you’re looking to eat here try and get a table on the balcony outside for an incredible view out over both Island’s of Adventure and Universal Studios.

Hard Rock Cafe – Another favourite restaurant of ours is The Hard Rock Cafe. We try and visit this restaurant at least once during every visit to Universal Studios Resort in Orlando, Florida. Here you’ll find classic American cuisine alongside awesome rock memorabilia from artists such as KISS, Elvis, The Beatles and Bob Dylan.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co – If you’re looking for shrimp for dinner there’s only one place to go and that’s Bubba Gump Shrimp which is located right at the entrance/exit of CityWalk as though you’re heading back to the car park. If you’re going to eat here then be sure to leave room for dessert as the choices are incredible!

If you’re looking for more entertainment once Island’s of Adventure has closed then CityWalk can cater to that too with everything from award-winning shows such as the Blue Man Group, a state of the art cinema complex showing all the latest releases and even a hilariously fun mini-golf centre with two different themes to choose from.

Awesome On-Site Hotels

If you’re looking to take your adults-only trip to Universal’s Islands of Adventure then consider staying in one of the Universal Studios Resort on-site hotels. There are a number of high-end hotels on-site which are catered to adults (here’s an in-depth look at our favourites).

These include;

Lowes Sapphire Falls ResortYou can catch a boat from the hotel which will take you to CityWalk in under five minutes. From there it’s just a five-minute walk to the entrance of Islands of Adventure or Universal Studios.

Loews Royal Pacific Resort – This four-star hotel also includes a boat service between the hotel entrance and CityWalk as well as complimentary Express Passes for all guests.

Hard Rock Hotel – Situated right next door to the Universal Studios park and just a ten-minute walk from Islands of Adventure this unique hotel includes complimentary Express Passes for all guests, and has a guitar-shaped swimming pool complete with an underwater sound system.
