We stayed here complimentary as part of a larger press trip with the Trentino tourism board. See here for more information about how we work with advertisers, tourism boards etc.
Garni Lilly is a modern, naturally inspired bed and breakfast in San Lorenzo. Situated in the north of Italy, at the very bottom of the Dolomites we stayed here for two nights and used it as a base to explore the Comano region and all it has to offer.
Garni Lilly is ideally situated for those looking to explore the Comano region by car (like us) or for those looking to take part in some of the many activities the region has to offer; hiking, cycling and canyoning to name a few.
The area is typical of villages in and around the Dolomites and there’s, therefore, a limit in all seasons as to bars, restaurants and supermarkets.
In this case, there are two restaurants within walking distance of the hotel (we ate at San Lorenzo Hotel and Grand Hotel Termini – although you’ll likely need to drive here) and one supermarket (coop) which is also within walking distance.
We were given a double room on the far end of the first floor with an incredible balcony that looks out onto the Dolomites. The balcony came complete with two plastic chairs and a small washing line and pegs.
The double room on the second floor directly above us has two balconies, ideal for getting an incredible view from both angles – Oh and the entire decor of this room also seems as though they are in a completely different hotel to us (Slightly random, but still…)
The room is relatively spacious and manages to mix the traditional feel of the cabin well with a modern and practical feel.
The bed was incredibly comfortable, although the double bed is made up of two single duvets. There is also a small side table at either side with a lamp.
The remainder of the room is made up of a small seating area, along with a desk with a wooden chair and plug socket at the opposite end of the room. There’s also a large radiator (ideal for additional heating in the winter months) and a mirror.
The bathroom is lovely and spacious and has a small selection of complimentary products in dispensers on the wall. The shower is very small and could be easily expanded given the space.
A great feature of the bathroom is the eco friendly toilet paper. This is the first time I’ve experienced this in any hotel we’ve stayed in worldwide and is a simple implementation which I’m sure would make a huge difference was it implemented by hotels worldwide.
The WIFI in the hotel is password protected, however the password can be obtained from reception. Given the rural location of the hotel we were relatively pleased with the download speeds at least.
There is a small self-serve selection of traditional foods for breakfast which is served on the ground floor at Garni Lilly. This includes; meats, cheeses, breads, cereal, fruit and pastry.
Garni Lilly has made a conscious effort to understand the requirements of the guests who stay in their hotel. Nowhere is this demonstrated better than in the packed lunch the hotel can prepare for you.
Whether you’re out hiking, kayaking or mountain climbing you can indulge on a homemade packed lunch. Again taking away from the worry of finding somewhere to eat in the rural landscape.
Garni Lilly benefits from a great location with incredible views. It’s a very practical base for exploring the Comano area and beyond. However, it is slightly let down by the limited range of evening dining options. All of which require you to leave the hotel (and likely visit another) to eat.
However, this minor inconvenience is made up by the impeccable modern and traditional mixed design of the hotel made up of a family of staff members which really create a home away from home.
