East Midlands Airport, England is easily accessible by public transport thanks to the Skylink East Midlands Airport service operated by Trentbarton. Buses call at Nottingham, Leicester, Derby, Loughborough, Long Eaton, and Coalville up to every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Taking public transport to East Midlands Airport is a great way to reduce the costs of airport parking, minimise stress, as well as being ideal for long-haul travel. Helen and I used the Skylink East Midlands Airport when we were flying from East Midlands Airport to Fuerteventura, but back to London Gatwick.

East Midlands Airport Bus To Nottingham
Without a doubt, the most popular Skylink East Midlands Airport service is the from Nottingham. We chose to catch the Express Skylink which leaves Nottingham Broadmarsh every half hour and calls at;

This express service operates between the hours of 5am and 11pm 7 days a week. While the distance from East Midlands Airport to Nottingham is around 13.7 miles, the journey is likely to take around 40 minutes depending on traffic.

While there are multiple departure points for the Skylink Express to East Midlands Airport we found the most convenient location to be opposite Superdrug in the town centre.
This is around a 5 minute walk from the train station. There’s a number of small bus stops, you’ll notice the one with the Skylink sign.
Tickets for the East Midlands Skylink Express service are £6.50 although we were offered a discount for getting both mine and Helen’s ticket on one receipt (total was £11). With this one ticket you can travel from Nottingham to East Midlands Airport as many times as you like that day – this is a standard tariff price with no discounts for single journeys.
Payments on the bus are cash only, and unfortunately, the Mango cashless system operated by Trentbarton is not valid on the Skylink service.
There are alternative buses that travel between East Midlands Airport and Nottingham. They include the standard Skylink service which operates every 20 minutes during the day and every hour at night 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and calls at both Nottingham and Long Eaton.
If you’re traveling from Shepshed and Coalville you’ll also find an extension to the Skylink East Midlands Airport service that operates 7 days a week, every hour between the hours of 5am and 11pm.

Taxi From East Midlands Airport
If a bus between East Midlands Airport and Nottingham doesn’t suit your personal requirements then taxi services are available.
Ubers operate in the East Midlands Airport / Nottingham airport. You can get a standard UberX suitable for up to 4 people for as little as £19 (prices will vary depending on the time of day and current demand)

Arrow private hire is the official taxi partner of East Midlands Airport. They, therefore, have a taxi rank at the airport which allows you to book a taxi last minute as required. East Midlands Airport to Grantham
If you’re looking to travel via public transport between East Midlands Airport and Grantham then it’s advised to get the roughly 30 minute train journey from Grantham to Nottingham and then take the Skylink from Nottingham to East Midlands Airport as highlighted above.
East Midlands Airport to Derby
A Skylink service between East Midlands Airport and Derby operates from Derby Bus Station (bay 7). Buses operate every 20 minutes from 5am until 11pm, depending on the traffic the journey is likely to take somewhere around 40 minutes.
East Midlands Airport Bus To Leicester
Popular coach company National Express offer four daily services between East Midlands Airport and Leicester at a cost of £3.10 per person, each way. Alternatively, if those times don’t suit your travel schedule then Skylink is once again available.
The Skylink bus service leaves Leicester every 20 minutes between 5am and 9.40pm the journey goes via Loughborough and takes roughly one hour to complete depending on traffic.
East Midlands Airport To Peterborough
Unfortunately, all public transport services between East Midlands Airport and Peterborough require at least one change (or more depending on the time in which you travel).
Once again you can travel between East Midlands Airport and Peterborough with National Express. This journey would require a change at Leicester and would take approximately 2.5 hours depending on the time in which you travel/service you take.
However, my best recommendation is to take either the train or National Express from Peterborough to Leicester and connect to the Skylink there on to East Midlands Airport.

Popular budget coach service Megabus offers services from locations across the UK to East Midlands Parkway (East Midlands Airport). At the time of writing these include;

Public transport is a convenient and affordable way to travel to East Midlands Airport. Our service was on time, comfortable and convenient. I’d certainly not hesitate to travel on the Skylink Express to East Midlands airport again in the future.
