Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and one of the most progressive cities in Asia. Subsequently, it’s somewhere that the LGBTQ+ community is welcomed and accepted with limited reports of discrimination.
We’ve had the pleasure of visiting Bangkok a number of times as a lesbian couple, and have never personally experienced any form of discrimination based on our sexual orientation. In fact, we find Bangkok to be one of the friendliest cities in the world.
Is Bangkok LGBTQ+ Friendly?
Bangkok is one of the most gay-friendly cities in Asia. Homosexuality is legal in Thailand, there’s zero censorship and discrimination towards members of the LGBTQ+ community is an illegal act.
As such you’ll find an extensive range of events, activities, clubs, bars and hotels that cater to the LGBTQ+ community. Sadly, however, Thailand as a whole does not recognise gay marriage and adoption by a same-sex couple is not permitted. Thankfully, however, these laws are showing early signs of change.
Alongside Bangkok, we also felt safe and comfortable as an LGBTQ+ couple exploring Phuket. This region of Thailand is best known for its nightlife and white, sandy beaches that attract tourists from around the world.
