January is one of the coldest months of the year with many states seeing record snowfall and low temperatures.

Sadly, this winter weather no longer comes with the magic of Christmas or the charm of Thanksgiving, which leaves many (ourselves included) in search of an escape.

Fortunately, there are several places in the United States that offer a reprieve from the winter weather.

Whether you’re looking for a beach vacation or an outdoor adventure, there are plenty of warm places to visit in January in the USA.

1. Florida Keys, Florida

January is generally considered a great time to visit the Florida Keys as the weather is mild and pleasant.

This is the dry season for the area, so you can expect little rainfall and instead, sunshine for most of the day.

While January in the Florida Keys isn’t as busy as in Spring Break or Summer, it’s still busier than usual with many people looking to escape the cold.

As such you may encounter larger crowds and higher prices for accommodation and activities.

2. San Diego, California

San Diego, California is one of the best places to visit in January, as the city has some of the warmest winter temperatures in the country. 

During the holidays, you’ll be met with dozens of special events including;

There’s no shortage of winter activities, either. You can go skating in the UTC Ice Sports Centre and eat at one of the restaurants in the shopping centre. If that’s not your style, you can instead go ice skating by the sea and enjoy the beautiful views of the coast.

San Diego has its own airport but is also just a short drive from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for those looking to visit both LA and San Diego in one trip.
