How Many Days Do You Need in Salou? (2026 UK Family Guide)
This blog post features links and information which have been obtained on a press trip. However, as always, all opinions shared in this post are my own.
Four to seven nights is the ideal duration for most UK families visiting Salou. Three is doable but rushed and anything past a week only earns its keep if you’re building in day trips.
We visited Salou for the first time in July 2026. We spent four nights there on a Jet2 package from Leeds Bradford with our two young children, Patrick (almost two) and Oliver (four and a half).
The two benefits to Salou being a shorter break for families are:
- Flight Duration: You’re typically looking at around 2 hours which is ideal.
- Transfer Duration: We spent around 30 minutes on the coach (doing other hotel drop-offs first) but you could easily do it in 15 minutes from a taxi.
All of that means that you can get from your home in the UK to your hotel in Salou in under 5 hours.
Methodology: I visited Salou for four nights with my wife and our two young children on a Jet2 package holiday, on one of the daily flights from Leeds Bradford Airport, to Reus. We stayed at Sol Costa Daurada, a 20-minute walk from the beach and a 10-minute walk from PortAventura. This post reflects our lived four-night experience plus current 2026 flight, transfer, and park logistics.
3 Nights in Salou
Three nights in Salou works if there’s a specific reason for it; a long weekend around a school inset day or a short birthday trip.
With three nights you’ll have at least two days to explore the area, so that could be a day at the pool and a day at the beach or a day at the pool and a day at PortAventura.
With a short trip like this flight times are key to maximise the amount of time you’ll have in Salou. But even then relaxing in your hotel room with early check-in and late check-out isn’t always possible.
4 Nights in Salou
We visited Salou for the first time in July 2026 and spent four nights exploring the town. We booked this break as a Jet2 package holiday which suited our young family perfectly. Here’s how we spent our four nights:
Day One: Arrived at the hotel at 3pm, had a late lunch, dropped our bags in the room and went for a wander down to the beach via the tourist train to get our bearings.

Day Two: Spent the majority of the day either by the pool or in the kids club. Walked the 10 minutes from our hotel to Ferrari Land, next to PortAventura Park, at around 5pm when it had cooled down. Three-day PortAventura tickets were included free with our Jet2 package.

Day Three: Spent the morning in the pool before heading down to the beach just before lunch. We walked along the front and my wife and I grabbed a cocktail while our boys napped in their pushchairs before heading back. Again we went over to PortAventura at around 5pm when it had cooled down.

Day Four: Unfortunately our youngest son had an accident the night before which resulted in him having to spend the night in hospital. As a result we had a slower morning, wandering down to the beach and grabbing each of our kids a toy before heading over to PortAventura a little earlier today at around 3pm.

Day Five: We had an early morning flight. Picked up from the hotel at 7:30am for our 10:20am flight. We arrived back at Leeds Bradford just before lunchtime and were back home by 1pm.
This was our eldest sons first holiday abroad since finishing cancer treatment six months prior so we picked Salou given it’s close proximity to major hospitals. A decision that paid dividends, just not for the reason we expected when our youngest child had an accident.
The ambulance and hospital staff all spoke fantastic English and were very accommodating and helpful in what was both a scary and stressful time.
7 Nights in Salou
Most package holidays default to seven nights, and if you’ve got the time off to accommodate that then Salou is a great choice.
You can structure the days like we did, spending the daytime around the pool or at the beach and the evening at the theme park. I think this is especially suited to families with young children who don’t want to be going around the theme park in the midday heat.

Alternatively, you can do more dedicated days. So spending one day around the pool, one day at the beach, and one day at the park, and so on. I think this is a great choice with families of older children as the theme park has more to offer in terms of rides and they’re more likely to be able to spend longer doing different activities.
With seven days you can also enjoy some of the other activities Salou has to offer including the Camí de Ronda coastal path, the Cap Salou lighthouse walk, or a boat trip out of the port.
More Than 7 Nights in Salou
7 nights is enough time in Salou to do everything the town has to offer at a relaxed pace. I’d only suggest visiting for longer if you’re looking to use that extra time to go on day trips out of town. Some of the best nearby places to visit include:
- Barcelona is 90 to 120 minutes each way by train or coach. I wanted to do this day trip the most having not been to Barcelona in over a decade. However, with young kids and only five nights 2 hours each way felt too much so we skipped it.
- Tarragona is much closer, 15 to 20 minutes away by car or train making it an ideal half-day visit. The Roman amphitheatre sits right on the coastline and is a real highlight.
- Cambrils is the town next door, walkable along the coast or one stop by train. Quieter beach, more of a working fishing-town feel.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most common questions I get about how long to book for Salou.
What’s the shortest sensible Salou trip length?
Four nights. Three nights loses too much of the trip to arrival and departure days, and the point of Salou for most UK families is having enough time to build the beach-pool-park rhythm. The two-hour flight home makes four nights properly restful rather than a rushed long weekend.
Is four nights enough for Salou with young children?
Yes, if you use the evening-PortAventura tactic. Arriving at the park at 3pm and staying two hours means you get four park visits across four nights without either the midday heat or theme-park burnout. That’s how we did it with a nearly-two-year-old and a four-year-old and it worked.
Is a full week too long for Salou?
No. Seven nights is the standard Jet2 and TUI package length and it fits the destination well. You get multiple park visits, proper beach days, a slower pace, and room for a half-day trip to Tarragona or Cambrils. Per-night cost drops on packages past the fifth night, so seven nights is often better value than five.
Do I need to visit Ferrari Land as well as PortAventura?
Not necessarily. Ferrari Land is smaller and geared towards older children and coaster fans, with much bigger rides than PortAventura’s family attractions. Junior Red Force works for kids as young as four, but under-eights can skip Ferrari Land entirely without missing much. Many Jet2 packages include a single Ferrari Land entry alongside PortAventura tickets, which is enough for a half-day visit.
Can you do Salou without a hire car?
Yes. Salou is walkable end-to-end in about 25 minutes, PortAventura and Ferrari Land are on the western edge and reachable by foot from most central hotels or a short taxi, Jet2 and TUI packages include airport transfers, and Cambrils is one train stop away. A hire car only makes sense if you’re staying outside the town centre or planning day trips to Barcelona and Tarragona.
When is the best time of year to visit Salou?
April to October is the UK-family season. Late June to August is peak heat (28-34°C) and peak crowds; four to five nights avoids theme-park burnout, and the evening-park tactic earns its keep. September to mid-October is the second sweet spot: warm sea, park hours still long, crowds thinner. April to early June is milder (18-24°C) but the sea is still cool.
Is Salou too hot in summer for young kids?
Peak summer (late June to August) hits 30-34°C most days, which is too hot for midday activity with toddlers. The workable strategy is a morning at the hotel pool, siesta or lunch in the shade during the hottest hours, and PortAventura or the beach from 3pm onwards. This is how local families do it too.
