Thinking of heading to New York City for New Year’s Eve?
It’s no secret that New York is one of the best cities in the world to visit over New Year’s. But deciding where to stay for such a special occasion? Well, that can be a mission in itself.
Having done all of the research myself for my trip, I decided to put together this guide to help others. I’ve included various locations and budget options in this list. Although even the cheap places are expensive at this time of year—sorry!
1. The Knickerbocker
The five-star Knickerbocker Hotel is the best luxury hotel in Times Square. This hotel has a New Year’s Eve rooftop party and a fantastic view of ‘the ball drop’.
Despite the building being over 110 years old, all the 330 rooms here are modern and well-signproofed. Meanwhile, the hotel’s facilities and amenities include:
- Rooftop Bar with Times Square views
- Luxury Celebrity Chef Restaurant
- Large Fitness Center
2. Renaissance New York Times Square
The Renaissance Times Square is a four-star luxury hotel in the centre of New York City. This hotel hosts a VIP New Year’s Eve Gala at the R Lounge. From here, you’ll have panoramic views of Times Square from the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The rooms here are modern and spacious, and some even have a private terrace. Meanwhile, the hotel’s facilities and amenities include:
- Rooftop Terrace with Times Square views
- Restaurant & Bar
- Fitness Center
3. New York Marriott Marquis
The Marriott Marquis Hotel hosts not one but two New Year’s Eve parties. The first is the casual, more family-friendly party that takes place at The View on the hotel’s 48th floor.
The second is the VIP Party, which takes place at the Broadway Lounge on the 8th floor. The Broadway Lounge has a large outdoor terrace with a direct view of ‘the ball drop’. The facilities and amenities available at this hotel include:

4. Refinery Hotel
The Refinery Hotel is in the heart of Midtown, a few minutes walk from Times Square. If you don’t fancy ringing in the New Year in Times Square, the hotel hosts a unique New Year’s Eve party on the rooftop bar.
The Refinery Hotel offers a range of modern yet industrial rooms and suites. Meanwhile, the hotel’s facilities and amenities include:

5. Times Square EDITION Hotel
The five-star Times Square EDITION Hotel offers a high-end luxury New Year’s Eve party featuring a five-course tasting menu by Michelin-star Chef John Fraser.
Despite having ‘Times Square’ in the name, this hotel doesn’t have a great view of the landmark. However, being a five-star hotel, there are plenty of amenities for guests to enjoy. Some of my favourites include:

6. The Williamsburg Hotel
The Williamsburg Hotel is a unique five-star hotel in the heart of Brooklyn. It isn’t great for visiting Manhattan for New Year’s, but it is ideal for a party in Brooklyn.
The hotel itself has a stylish, retro design with many quirky features. Various room types are available, including standard, terrace, loft, and skyline. Meanwhile, the hotel’s facilities include:

7. Arlo SoHo
Arlo SoHo is a modern hotel in the heart of SoHo and boasts one of the city’s best New Year’s Eve parties. The hotel’s multi-floor New Year’s Eve Bash includes a four-hour open bar, endless nibbles and a live DJ.
The standard rooms here are compact at just 150 sq ft. However, they feature everything you could need. Meanwhile, the hotel’s facilities include:

9. Hotel Indigo Lower East Side

10. Millennium Times Square New York
Millennium Times Square is one of the cheapest hotels close to Times Square in Manhattan.
Rooms at this hotel are clean and modern and available with either a king or two queen beds. Being a four-star, this hotel has several fantastic amenities for guests here. My favourites include:

11. M Social Hotel Times Square
M Social is a modern, upmarket hotel on 52nd Street, just a few blocks north of Times Square. This hotel claims to host the only New Year’s Eve event in New York with a guaranteed view of the ‘ball drop’ in Times Square.
Rooms here are available in either a king or two-queen-bed format. Meanwhile, the hotel’s facilities and amenities include:
- Fitness Center
- Coffee Shop
- Restaurant & Bar
12. The Chatwal
The Chatwal is a five-star art deco-inspired hotel just one block from Times Square. The hotel hosts an elegant New Year’s Eve Gala dinner at its award-winning restaurant, The Lambs, followed by a premium open bar and live DJ.
The hotel offers both rooms and suites. The largest of which can accommodate up to four people. Meanwhile, being five-star, the hotel has an extensive range of amenities and facilities. My favourites include:

13. Hyatt Centric Times Square
The Hyatt Centric Hotel is home to Bar 54, the tallest rooftop bar in Times Square. This bar hosts an exclusive New Year’s Eve event featuring a five-hour premium open bar, live music and ‘ball drop’ views from the outdoor terrace.
The rooms and suites here offer floor-to-ceiling windows with city views. Meanwhile, the hotel’s facilities and amenities include:

14. Hilton Garden Inn Times Square
The three-star Hilton Garden Inn is located on 42nd Street, just half a block from Times Square. While this hotel isn’t in Times Square, some rooms have a view of the attraction.
This hotel is relatively affordable, given its location. However, being a three-star, its amenities and facilities are slightly more limited. They include:

15. The Pearl Hotel
The Pearl Hotel is just a few minutes walk from Times Square, an ideal location for hitting the parties of Midtown Manhattan.
The Pearl is the smallest hotel on this list, with just 94 boutique rooms and suites. Despite its size, the hotel has plenty of fantastic facilities. My favourites include:

16. Residence Inn by Marriott Manhattan
Residence Inn by Marriott New York Manhattan is located on Broadway. That means it’s just a 5-minute walk from Central Park and 10 minutes from Times Square.
As the tallest hotel in New York City, many rooms offer a fantastic view over the city’s skyline. Meanwhile, the hotel’s facilities and amenities include:

- Bar
17. Doubletree By Hilton Times Square West
Doubletree Times Square West is in the Hells Kitchen neighbourhood of Manhattan. This means you can walk to Times Square in under 10 minutes.
The hotel’s rooftop bar, HighBar Rooftop, is a great spot to enjoy New Year’s Eve with 360-degree unobstructed NYC skyline views. The hotel hosts a New Year’s Eve party with a champagne toast at midnight. Other hotel amenities and facilities include:
