Cebu and Coron are two separate islands in The Philippines and there are two ways in which you can travel to and from these destinations either via plane or on by ferry.

In this post, we’ll be discussing the process of getting from Cebu to Coron (and Coron back to Cebu) following both of these methods as well as the benefits and drawbacks of each.

Flying is the quickest and most convenient way to get from Cebu to Coron.

Flights from Cebu to Francisco B. Reyes Airport, Busuanga in Coron start at 1,800 pesos one way and take around 1 hour 30 minutes.

Based on experience we tend to find these flights go up to around 3,500 pesos one way in the last week prior to travel so do try and book in advance to get the cheapest price.

The only airlines operating this route currently are Cebu and Philippines Airlines.

Francisco B. Reyes Airport is the only airport on Coron Island, it’s around a 40-minute drive from here to Coron Town Proper. Most hotels offer private transport to and from the airport for a fee (this varies between hotels).

Alternatively, there will be minibuses waiting for when planes land to take passengers to Coron Town Proper.

The price is 150 pesos per person (non-negotiable) upon boarding simply tell the driver where you’re staying and they’ll drop you off at the door.

Aside from this, there are no other ways to get from the airport to Coron Town Proper. No taxis, motorbike hire or habal-habals due to the distance between the two locations and the lack of transit passengers.

Ferry From Cebu To Coron

There are no direct ferries between Cebu and Coron. As a result, multiple ferries make this one hour flight at least a 33-hour ferry journey with multiple changes.

The routes you could take include;

  • Travelling from Cebu to Manila (either one a one hour flight or a 22-hour ferry) and then taking the ferry from Manila to Coron.

  • Flying to Puerto Princesa (either on a one hour flight or a 2 ferries taking 33 hours – Cebu to Iloilo and then Iloilo to Puerto Princesa) and then a bus or ferry north to El Nido before finally taking a ferry across to Coron.

It’s a shame to pass through any of these places and not take the time to stop and appreciate what these islands have to offer so if you do decide to travel from Cebu to Coron by ferry, be sure to allow around 5 to 7 days.

This leaves you with enough time to recover from your journey at each stop and explore what the region has to offer.
