Gran Canaria Airport is situated 32 km from the coastal town of Maspalomas. As it’s one of the most popular areas on the island, there are several ways to get there once you’ve landed.

The best (and often most popular) way to travel between Gran Canaria Airport and Maspalmoas is by taxi. The journey typically takes around 25-30 minutes and will cost you around €40.

However, there are more affordable alternatives available. You’ve got the bus which does take longer, although it will cost you significantly less. For those planning to explore Gran Canaria by car, you can simply pick up your hire at the airport.

Taxi

⏱️ Time: 25 – 30 minutes
💵 Cost: €40
💻 Reserve Taxi: Hoppa

The quickest and most convenient way to reach Maspalomas from Gran Canaria Airport is by taxi. This way, you won’t have to wait for one of the bus services. Instead, you can simply leave arrivals, hop in a taxi, and then be dropped off at your hotel.

Taxi drivers are not legally required to carry a baby car seat or child restraints, so you’ll want to consider this before you arrive. Otherwise, you may find that most of the taxis aren’t equipped to carry young children on board. In this case, it’s best to book a taxi or private transfer in advance so they’re aware of your situation.

There are three main arrival zones at Gran Canaria Airport; A, B, and C. The airport taxi ranks will have taxis lined up outside of these zones, on the ground floor. There’s not usually a long waiting line at the taxi rank either, so you should have no problem getting one.

However, if there’s a large group of you or you’ve got plenty of luggage, then it may be best to book a taxi in advance – just in case, they can’t cater to your needs. In fact, normal airport taxis can’t carry more than four people so you’ll need to keep this in mind.

Depending on traffic, the journey should take around 25-30 minutes. Of course, this will depend on where exactly you’re staying in Maspalomas and the time of day you’re travelling.

Unlike other areas in Spain, there’s no ride-hailing app such as Uber or Bolt on the island of Gran Canaria. Instead, all the taxis here run on a metre, and not at a fixed rate. For the distance, you’re looking at a price of around €40.

Hire Car

⏱️ Time: 25 – 30 minutes
💵 Cost: €15 per day (hire car only)
💻 Book Hire Car: Discover Cars

If you’re looking to explore the whole of Gran Canaria, then your best option is to hire a car. This gives you complete flexibility when it comes to planning your itinerary, and you’ll be able to explore some of the island’s off-the-beaten-track destinations.

If you’re going to get a hire car, then we highly recommend picking one up from the airport. This way, you can head straight to your accommodation in Maspalomas, rather than wait around.

When returning your hire car, make sure to arrive at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport with plenty of time as there may be a short wait.

There are several car rental desks at Gran Canaria Airport, and these include Avis, Ciscar, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt. You’ll find these desks scattered throughout the main terminal and each one will vary when it comes to prices and vehicle availability.

Rather than trying to simply hire a car when you arrive at the airport. I recommend instead using a comparison website such as Discover Cars to find the cheapest car rental company online in advance.

Best Place To Rent A Car In Gran Canaria

Discover Cars compares car rental deals from more than 500 partners so that you can choose which is best for your trip.

Depending on when you visit, hiring a car in Gran Canaria can start from as little as €10, perhaps even cheaper if you’re visiting during the off-season.

If you’ve booked your vehicle online first, you can head straight to the counter and pick up your keys, rather than shop around for a good deal.

When renting a car it’s really important to check the terms and conditions of your hire. This will differ with each company and can vary depending on your age and country of origin. It’s also important to check what’s included with your rental, the fuel policy, and how much mileage is allowed each day.

Bus

⏱️ Time: 40 minutes
💵 Cost: €4.75

If you’re looking for the cheapest option, then you’ll probably want to catch the bus. The bus stop is located right across from the main terminal so it’s easy to get to.

There are two companies that service Gran Canaria, but it’s Global Bus that you’ll need. Not only is this company reliable, but you’ll have a comfortable journey, and it’s a much cheaper alternative when compared to taxis.

Several services will take you to Maspalomas, but No.66 is by far the most convenient. It’s extremely affordable at just €4.75 and there are fewer stops, so the journey won’t take as long.  Luckily, many of the routes run by Global Bus feature air conditioning too so you won’t have to worry about the heat.

Although cheap, the bus isn’t as convenient as getting a taxi or hiring a car. For starters, you’ll have to wait at the airport for when the bus departs. The waiting time will differ depending on how often the buses are running, and how many people are waiting to get on.

Not only that but you’ll be dropped off at the bus stop in Maspalomas. Now this isn’t a problem if your hotel is only a short walk away or you’ve just got a small backpack/bag. However, if you’ve got heavy luggage then that can become a problem in the heat.

If you’re planning to catch the bus, then you might want to weigh up where your hotel is in comparison to the bus stop beforehand. This will give you an idea of the distance, and whether you’ll need to take a short taxi journey the rest of the way. The last thing you want is to be exhausted before you’ve even started your holiday!

Private Airport Transfer

⏱️ Time: 25 – 30 minutes
💵 Cost: €40 – €60
💻 Reserve Transfer: Hoppa

Last but certainly not least, you can organise a private airport transfer in advance. These are typically in the same ballpark as taxis when it comes to price, but they’re often even more convenient.

This is especially the case if you’re travelling in a large group or you require special equipment, such as a child seat or restraint. Typically you’re looking to pay around €40-€50, but this can increase if you need a large vehicle.

The great thing about booking a private airport transfer in advance is that you know exactly how much you’re paying. You also won’t need to wait at the taxi rank or the bus stop for a ride, as it will likely already be there waiting for you.

When it comes to finding a reputable company that offers private transfers in a foreign country we use Hoppa which compares multiple companies including prices and reviews.

Like with a taxi, you’ll be dropped off right at your hotel door, so there’s no trekking around with your luggage. In fact, many hotels offer this service so it’s worth taking a look at their prices first.

Although booking a private airport transfer is arguably the most expensive way to reach Maspalomas, there’s no denying it’s convenient. However, if you don’t have that kind of budget, then check out the public bus instead, as it’s much more affordable.

As well as checking with your hotel to see if they offer this transfer, do a bit of research online. You’ll likely find a few companies that offer private transfers, and some of them might even be cheaper. Just make sure you check the reviews first, as you’ll want a company that’s reliable.
