If you’re visiting Los Angeles, chances are you’ve thought about checking out the iconic sidewalk on Hollywood Blvd lined with stars dedicated to famous celebrities.

While the Hollywood Walk of Fame is significantly underwhelming in person, it’s still somewhere we think everyone should visit on their first trip to LA.

The street is in a good location and has plenty of things to do on or nearby, this combined with the fact that seeing the most famous and popular stars should only take an hour means that it shouldn’t take too much out of your trip.

Is The Hollywood Walk Of Fame Free?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is free to visit. There’s no entry area, and instead, this street is the same as any other in Los Angeles, except the sidewalk has a number of iconic stars on the floor, a few more people around and a range of stores, family-friendly restaurants and attractions.

Best Time To Visit The Hollywood Walk Of Fame?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you can technically visit at any time. However, if you want to avoid the crowds and make the most of your visit while still being relatively safe from beggars, hecklers and scammers, then we recommend going early in the morning.

That being said, if you’re looking for a more lively experience, consider visiting during a special event or ceremony.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame hosts many events throughout the year including star dedications and movie premieres which give you a chance to see your favourite celebrities in person – note that this is likely the only time you’d ever see anyone famous on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

How Long Does It Take To Walk The Hollywood Walk Of Fame?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame stretches for 1.3 miles, so the amount of time it takes to walk along it will really depend on your pace. If you’re just strolling along and looking at the stars, it could take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

However, if you want to stop at every star and take pictures, it could take a couple of hours. Based on our own personal experience we recommend setting aside at least an hour to get a good sense of the area and see some of the most famous stars.

Things To Do On The Hollywood Walk of Fame

While the main attraction of the Hollywood Walk of Fame is the stars, there are plenty of other things to see and do in the area.

Visit The TCL Chinese Theatre

The TLC Chinese Theatre is the most famous attraction on Hollywood Blvd (aside from the Hollywood stars).

This iconic landmark has hosted multiple movie premiers since it was first opened back in 1927 and has a courtyard filled with the famous hand and footprints of Hollywood legends including Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson and more.

You can tour the theatre every day except Monday between the hours of 10:15 am and 7:00pm. Tickets cost $16 (discounts for children and seniors are also available), however, it’s highly recommended you book online in advance given the popularity.

Visit The Hollywood Museum

Located in the historic Max Factor Building, The Hollywood Museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history of Hollywood.

Here you’ll find exhibits featuring props, costumes, and other memorabilia from classic movies and TV shows, as well as displays of personal belongings and other artefacts from some of Hollywood’s most famous stars.

It’s a great way to get a glimpse into the past and learn more about the movie industry that has captivated audiences for over a century.

Dine At A Celebrity-Owned Restaurant

There are several celebrity-owned restaurants on or near the Hollywood Walk of Fame that is popular among locals and tourists alike. Here are some of the best ones:

  • Wahlburgers: Owned by the Wahlberg brothers, this burger chain has a location on Hollywood Boulevard and is known for its delicious burgers and sandwiches.
  • Trejo’s Tacos: Actor Danny Trejo owns this Mexican restaurant, which offers a wide range of tacos, burritos, and other Mexican dishes.
  • Black Rabbit Rose: Owned by actor David Arquette, this bar and restaurant offer a unique dining experience with its magic shows and burlesque performances.
  • Tagine Beverly Hills: Owned by actor Ryan Gosling, this restaurant serves Moroccan cuisine and is known for its flavorful tagines.
  • The Fat Sal’s Deli: This deli, co-owned by actor Jerry Ferrara, serves up massive sandwiches, loaded fries, and other comfort food items.
  • Mauro’s Cafe at Fred Segal: This Italian-style cafe is owned by actor and producer Sylvester Stallone, and serves up delicious pastries, sandwiches, and coffee.
  • Yamashiro: Owned by actor Johnny Depp, this Japanese restaurant is located in a historic building and offers stunning views of the city.

Take A Celebrity Homes Tour

A number of companies offer guided tours of the luxurious homes of Hollywood stars located in the nearby Beverly Hills area, the majority of which depart from outside CVS on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

During these tours, you’ll have the opportunity to see the extravagant homes of celebrities, from the gated mansions of A-list actors to the stunning properties of famous musicians.

Check Out The Gift Stores

Some of the best gifts from California can be found in stores located along The Hollywood Walk of Fame. However, most stores here sell the same souvenirs, as a result, I highly recommend checking the prices in each store before deciding where you’re going to make that all-important purchase.

Is The Hollywood Walk Of Fame Safe?

The Hollywood Walk of Fame is safe but is also home to a large population of beggars, hecklers, thieves and scammers who target the thousands of visitors who come here daily.

While we travelled here with our 15-month-old little boy during our most recent trip to the city, there are in our opinion better things to do with kids in Los Angeles.

As such we highly encourage you to be vigilant with your belongings and aware of your surroundings at all times. We would also not recommend visiting The Hollywood Walk of Fame at night.
