Review: Loews Miami Beach Hotel – An Incredible Family-Friendly Resort

This blog post features links and information which have been obtained on a press trip. However, as always, all opinions shared in this post are my own.

We have visited the state of Florida more than 10 times in the past 8 years. Yet, never ventured as far south as Miami until this past weekend when we spent 3 nights here before heading out on our Disney Cruise.

First, let me tell you that 3 nights is definitely not enough to explore everything that Miami offers. Second, if you’re going to stay anywhere in Miami make it the Loews Miami Beach Hotel.

This four-star hotel (I still can’t believe four, not five-stars) is in a prominent location in the heart of Miami Beach and boasts an extensive range of facilities and amenities ensuring that whether you’re visiting for a weekend beach break, to explore the architecture of the city or to simply lounge by the pool you have everything you could possibly need.

Where Is The Loews Miami Beach Hotel?

Loews Miami Beach Hotel is located in the heart of Miami Beach’s vibrant Art Deco District, at the northern end of South Beach — far enough away from the nightlife, but close enough to stroll over (and in our case play in the playground with our little one) during the day.

Within walking distance of Loews Miami Beach Hotel you have;

  • South Beach
  • Lincoln Road
  • Española Way
  • Time Out Market
  • Miami Beach Botanical Garden
  • South Pointe Park Pier
  • Miami Beach Marina
  • Miami Convention Center

Meanwhile, within a 20-minute drive of Loews Miami Beach Hotel, you have;

  • Port of Miami
  • Wynwood Walls
  • Brickell & Downtown Miami
  • Little Havana
  • Vizcaya Museum & Gardens
  • Miami Children’s Museum

Finally, within a 30-minute drive of Loews Miami Beach Hotel, you have;

  • Miami International Airport (MIA)

Partial Ocean View King Room

Loews Miami Beach Hotel offers 790 guestrooms and 65 suites, each designed to reflect the inviting oasis inspired by the sea and sand just steps away from your door.

We stayed in a 351-square-foot partial ocean view king room on the 15th floor (room 1520, to be exact), which can accommodate either one king bed or two double beds, depending on your preference.

Despite the incredible art-deco exterior, the interior of this hotel is anything but dated. In fact, quite the opposite, in every room, you’ll find a large smart TV, a light switch that indicates do not disturb (no more messing around with fiddly plastic room signs) and enough plugs to accommodate even my extensive number of electronics.

This room in particular also comes with a marble bathroom with a walk-in shower as well as Julien Farel shampoo and conditioner, and skin and body-care products. Alongside a coffeemaker with gourmet coffee and an extensive minibar.

However, the real draw of these rooms is the view, to our left we had the incredible sand and sea of Miami Beach and to our right, we had the city’s skyline.

Multiple room options (and views) are available at Loews Miami Beach depending on your budget, and this partial ocean view is a fantastic compromise for those looking to experience the luxury of a Loews property on a budget.

However, if you are looking to go ‘all out’ I recommend checking out the Ocean View Suites With Balcony, the Bayview Suite or even the Presidential Ocean Front Suite.

The Vibe

Loews Miami Beach is a haven for families looking for a luxurious property in a central location just footsteps from Miami Beach.

The hotel boasts a number of facilities and amenities which have been designed to exclusively benefit families with children of all ages, including complimentary armbands, complimentary swim diapers and complimentary SPF 50 sunblock.

This combined with the fantastic kids club, multiple on-site restaurants, the coffee shop and the store means that you never have to leave the resort unless you really want to.

In that sense, I wish we’d have spent one week in Miami instead of just three nights because we could have easily spent the entire three or even four days and nights here just inside the hotel’s grounds, lounging by the pool with food and drinks delivered to our sunbed throughout the day.

We travelled during the first week of the US school holidays (for most cities and states across the country) and subsequently, we’d estimate that roughly 30% to 40% of all guests at Loews Miami Beach were travelling with children.

Loews Miami Beach is also the only hotel in South Beach that offers a kids club for children aged between 4 and 12. Sadly, at 18 months our little one is still too young so we can’t share any personal experiences of the kids club just yet – maybe next time!

The Facilities & Amenities At Loews Miami Beach

The Loews Miami Beach Hotel offers an extensive range of modern facilities and amenities for guests to enjoy during their stay.

Prestons Market

Prestons Market serves breakfast from 7am until 12 midday daily. This farm-to-table restaurant offers locally sourced American cuisine with a South Beach twist. Guests can order from the menu or alternatively, enjoy a buffet breakfast complete with;

  • “Florida Fresh” fruits
  • Cereal bar
  • “St. James” smoked salmon
  • Local charcuterie
  • Selection of yoghurts
  • Imported & local cheese selection
  • Omelette station
  • Waffles
  • Pancakes
  • Eggs
  • Breakfast potatoes
  • Breakfast meats
  • Freshly baked house-made pastries

The view from the outdoor seating area combined with the delicious food makes Prestons Market the most perfect place to start your day in Miami Beach.

Bar Collins

One of the highlights of our stay at Loews Miami Beach was our dinner at Bar Collins. The food here was some of the best we’ve ever had anywhere in the world – which for a couple who loves to eat and travels extensively to say is a real testament.

Better still, you don’t have to stay at Loews Miami Beach to enjoy a meal here. So if you decide to stay elsewhere in Miami I’d still recommend booking a table to enjoy dinner here. Believe me when I say, you will not be disappointed.

The restaurant’s menu is extensive and features casual bar bites, which are perfect for eating while watching sports on the big screen, as well as a lunch menu which features spreads, small plates, pizzas and salads.

However, we opted for dinner and chose a combination of items from the dinner menu and the sushi bar. The sushi we had here at Bar Colins matches, if not beats many of the establishments we ate at during our month-long trip to Japan a couple of years ago.

If, somehow you have space after dinner for dessert, then once again you won’t be disappointed. Both of us certainly over-ordered and had to take the majority of our cake slices back to the room to eat jetlagged at 3am.

Miami Joe Coffee Co.

Miami Joe Coffee Co. is the coffee bar located inside Loews Miami Beach Hotel. Open from 7am until 7pm, this coffee establishment serves a range of;

  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Soft Drinks
  • Milkshakes
  • Smoothies
  • Ice Cream
  • Pastries
  • Sandwiches
  • Salads

On the rare morning we didn’t eat at Preston’s Market, we picked up a delicious coffee and pastry from here to enjoy back in our room – although seating outside in the lobby area is also available.

SOAK Daybeds & Cabanas

If you’re looking for something a little extra special during your stay at Loews Miami Beach Hotel, then we highly recommend booking the exclusive SOAK luxury experience. These come in the format of;

  • SOAK Cabanas
  • SOAK Daybeds
  • SOAK Adult-Only Cabanas
  • Pool, Beach, SOAK Family Fun

Being a family, we opted for the SOAK Cabana, which is the only two-story, air-conditioned, private bathroom cabana in all of Miami Beach and is, in our opinion, the best way to spend a fun-filled day by the pool.

Each Cabana features; a full bathroom with shower, climate control, plush indoor and outdoor seating, a safety deposit box, sundeck and flat-screen TV and can accommodate up to six people in total.

Meanwhile, the SOAK Cabana experience includes;

  • Personalized SOAK Butler Service
  • An exclusive and designated area
  • Newspaper and magazine corner
  • Complimentary Internet access
  • Jacuzzi exclusive for the Cabana and daybed area
  • Sundeck with ocean views
  • Expanded food menu, wine list, and bottle service
  • Welcome amenity upon arrival
  • Four lounge chairs, umbrellas, and soft seating on the rooftop sundeck
  • 2 beach chairs included with cabana rental

This was great as we were able to leave Oliver (our 18-month-old little boy) in the air-conditioned room to nap while we relaxed, enjoying cocktails on our private sunloungers just across from him. He had the best nap of the entire trip, and we had a peaceful, incredibly relaxing 90 minutes.

SOAK is available from 9am until 6pm daily. However, given the limited number of Cabanas and Daybeds available we highly recommend booking to reserve in advance, especially during the peak season (you can do so by calling the reservations line on +1 (800) 235-6397).

The Pool

Loews Miami Beach features an expansive pool deck with a jacuzzi. As a family, we loved the zero-entry into the pool on the right-hand side and spent all three of our afternoons at the hotel splashing around here.

Guests can also enjoy an extensive range of delicious food and drinks delivered from the bar to the pool area, cabanas, daybeds and sun loungers.

Fitness Center

Since I travel a lot I try where possible to stick to some sort of fitness routine whether at home in the UK or travelling abroad and thankfully the fitness center at Loews Miami Beach Hotel made doing so incredibly easy.

Situated on the ground floor of St. Moritz, a separate building just a walkway from the main hotel lobby you’ll find the fitness suite with boasts an extensive range of modern cardio equipment and weights.

You’ll also find the Sea Spa, which features 16 treatment rooms, a fitness studio with yoga, core fusion, and barre classes, and mani-pedi and hair services for minors.

I worked out just once during our three-night trip, at around 4pm in the afternoon and found the area to be relatively busy considering the time. Despite this, there was still plenty of space, and the piece of equipment I required was always available.

Final Thoughts

I’m still shocked that Loews Miami Beach is just a four-star hotel! This hotel features everything you’d expect from a five-star hotel (and more). I only wish we could have stayed longer.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly hotel in the heart of Miami Beach, Loews Miami Beach Hotel is the only one we’d recommend—believe me, you won’t be disappointed.
